“Big things have small beginnings.” - Prometheus
It’s sometimes difficult to feel inspired to create! In recent weeks I have been taking a bit of time out (see my recent blogpost titled Permission to Pause) and instead of making bigger paintings I opted to make small colourful drawings and doodles in my sketchbook.
I am a big proponent of always keeping a sketchbook close by in order to foster a creative habit. I’m sharing a short video showing some drawings in my sketchbook done on different locations before I started a longer demo using the colour palette of Week 35’s #coloricombo prompt in Luminance pencils and Caran d’Ache blenders.
I start small and simple with colours and marks drawn in a square, using a sheet of pebble shapes from a previous Coloricombo post as template. This is a way to let go of planning and having to know what the outcome will be. This creative process also allows one to stop and to continue at a later stage. In the demo I show how the lines became layers of blended colours and I ended up with a layered abstract drawing of bulbous orange shapes on a grey background
Here’s the short video available to everyone with the full 35 minute long, real time demo posted at the bottom of this page for contributing subscribers.
