A special Christmas-themed treat
Week 50's colours are Ruby, Soft Pink, Teal & Mint
At the start of December, my husband Niall gave me something rather special: a big box of goodies as an advent calendar from Marks & Spencer, a well known department store here in the UK.
I think it’s my first ever advent calendar that doesn’t contain chocolate and it’s been fun to open the lid of the 25 Days of Beauty box and rummage through the different sized black cardboard wrappers to find each day’s number and discover a little beauty inspired treat inside. I even found some lovely colours in there, a mint green comb and juicy red lip colour and nail varnish, so decided to use them for this week’s #coloricombo colour prompt.
The countdown to Christmas inspired me to do a collection of quick Christmas-themed sketchbook drawings using numbers as anchor point for each creation. I started with the number ten and created a simplified Christmas tree using Luminance colour pencils in the colours of this week’s prompt.
You can see the demo below. There’s another demo for contributing subscribers using the same materials, with the addition of Caran d’Ache’s pencil blender to smooth down colours.
Look out for the next nine days’ Christmas-themed number drawings that I’ll be posting on my Instagram account with some here too. Join in, it’s fun to simplify and play with basic shapes to create. Kids will love it as well!

Colour Combination
The colours this week are Ruby, Soft Pink, Teal & Mint. Use the colours along with a contrasting dark and neutral light colour to create an artwork in any medium or style. Share this post with someone who likes colour and might enjoy a weekly dollop of colour and creativity.
It is fun to see what you create with the prompts, thank you for sharing your creations. If you’re posting on Instagram, please tag #coloricombo and #estemacleod and join us in the private Facebook group Creative Prompts.
A Xmas Tree Artwork
The two trees I’m demonstrating can be seen above. The one on the left is the simpler sketchbook drawing I did first and the one on the right adds in the Caran d’Ache and is exlusively for contributing subscribers.
Starting with the number 10 as shapes to create the tree drawing.
Contributing subscribers will find the additional video recordings of the tree on watercolour paper with more colour layers and blending demonstrated.
Available once again: Colori Flori Summit 2025
The two week long Colori Flori Summit 2025 took place in the spring and is now available again for a limited time period. If you missed it, registration is open until Xmas only. Give a gift of creativity - if you took part back then, why not send it as a digital gift to someone special?
Along with thirteen other artists, we each created a lesson focussed on florals and using a limited colour palette. The lessons are recorded and edited to be delivered in fourteen bite sized portions.
Registration is only open until Xmas and the Summit comes with lifetime access. See the option to send the Summit as a gift at checkout where you can add their contact details, a personal message and even a specific delivery date. Find out more here.
