I have to be honest, this purple and yellow colour combination is not a personal favourite but that’s also part of this ongoing colour challenge. Exploring all kinds of colour combinations and creating mixes, I did love discovering more about the two incredible glass artists that Week 28’s colours of Ultra Violet, Lavender, Mustard & Acid Yellow were based on.
With July’s theme being Ocean I wanted show you the outcome of a design collaboration with the V & A Waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa linked to the ocean, environment and conservation.
Mixing
I mixed this weeks colours using QoR watercolours and recorded live with minimal editing. It’s just over 12 minutes long.
Artwork
In the demo, I’m showing a way to create a negative shape around textures. The purple and yellows colours I mixed are used to paint the watery textures of the jellyfish first, using a fan, comber and a dagger brush. A jellyfish cardboard cutout was then used to create the negative space - the dark painted area around the jellyfish. The video is recorded in real time, not edited much, and about 15 minutes long.
