Juicy Jelly... July colours from the garden (with demo)
Week 30's colours are taken from a Caran d'Ache's set: Light Cadmium Red, Fast Orange, Purple Violet, Magenta & Rose of Garance.
For this week prompt I picked five colours. The inspiration comes from the variety of pink, red, orange and purple flowers in our garden and it’s a good excuse to use a selection of colours from one of the five Caran d’Ache 50th anniversary Neocolor II sets
In the demonstration, pebbles shapes are used to create simple rounded forms that became abstract, semi-floral shapes.
Summer Creative Retreat 2025
Before I go on I want to mention the FREE Summer Creative Retreat online event hosted by the Pigeon Letters. There will be sixty sessions from a wide selection of artists taking place from 1-6 August.
Click here to get all the info on this event. My one hour long demo takes place on Thursday 1 August and I’d love to see you there.

Colour Combination
The colours this week are Light Cadmium Red, Fast Orange, Purple Violet, Magenta* & Rose of Garance all taken from one of the five anniversary Caran d’Ache sets of ten Neocolor II crayons. Use the colours along with a contrasting dark and neutral light colour if you wish. Create an artwork in any medium or style.
* Magenta is the name of the colour, but Caran d’Ache describes the crayon colour as purple.
I love seeing what you create. If you’re posting on Instagram, please tag #coloricombo and #estemacleod and join us in the private Facebook group Creative Prompts.
Demonstration
This week’s demonstration uses the same pebble printouts which I first showed as colour inspiration in Week 24’s prompt.
Here’s the PDF downloads of pebbles as I’ve used in the demo.
For contributing subscribers I recorded a 47 minute long video of nine layered florals in Neocolor II crayons. It’s posted below.
