Stripey Doodles: LIVE DEMO at 7pm London time
A sketchbook project using lines, stripes and a limited palette
Last Friday I travelled to London where I met up with a friend to visit the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea where my paintings were exhibited. Whilst waiting outside Sloane Square station I noticed the striking pattern of a woollen coat a woman was wearing. The organic stripes of the coat drew my eye to the pattern on the stone tiles, dirty rain marks on the station wall, other people wearing stripes, her handbag and even the wooden stirrers at the coffee stall!

Inspiration really is everywhere. I was thinking of sharing a video demo linked to stripes (based on last week’s Banksy inspired post) and this is what I did over the weekend.
Contributing subscribers can see the full video at the end of this post.
I mentioned in recent Coloricombo posts that I’ve been enjoying working on a smaller scale, keeping drawings to around 4x4” (10x10cm) size and working in a sketchbook. I made two drawings with a focus on mark making, limiting myself to using lines and stripes in this creative challenge. You can see the results below.

Tonight I’ll be doing a live demo using the close up of the coat below as inspiration, print it off and join in.
Find me here on Substack (Monday 20 October) at 7pm London (11am San Francisco, 2pm New York, 8pm Berlin, 10pm Dubai and 5am Tuesday in Sydney)
Feel inspired to try this yourself? I’m including a downloadable PDF of the coat, use it to spark some ideas for your sketchbook drawings.
An exclusive video recording
The demo video I recorded over the weekend is shared below exclusively for contributing subscribers. If you can’t see it, please consider joining them - a subscription is only $9 monthly or $90 annually.
