For Week 32, and August’s new theme of Aqua, I took the colours from a painting by the Korean artist Kim Tschang-Yeul (김창열).
The specific painting is titled Événement de la nuit and is an example of his signature water drop theme.
He developed this after a frustrating nights painting, when he ended up throwing water over a black canvas. Isn’t it amazing that a night without inspiration could lead to a completely new subject matter?
Mixing
I’m mixing the colours Buff, Green Grey, Petrol Blue & Deep Indigo using Golden QoR in this ten minute video demonstration.
It wasn’t a very difficult palette, I’ve used blues, white, Paynes grey and the smallest touch of Raw Umber.
Artwork
I painting a leopard for a quick watercolour and gouache artwork using Week 32’s colours
At the moment I am working on a commission for designs linked to Southern African fauna and flora. I often start paintings with words and letters as well as symbols like question marks, can you see where I used it on the leopard’s ear?
