These beautiful blues and browns were taken from one of David Hockney’s “Splash” series, painted a few years after his move to Los Angeles from a greyer and possibly less glamorous London.
The colours also remind me of the Mediterranean coast around Greece where I’ll be travelling soon to teach on two retreats. These run from 17-25 September and then from 27 September to 5 October. Due to a last minute cancellation, there’s one place now open on the second retreat. Want to join us?
Mixing
As usual, I’m using QoR watercolours and white designer gouache to mix this Week 35’s colours of Sky Blue, Pacific Blue, Coco & Deep Brown. Here’s a 10 minute video of the process.
Demo
National Dog Day was on 26 August, I love dogs (and cats) so I used the colours of Week 35 to paint a cheeky little doggy, starting with a question mark shape. What shall we call her?
I enjoyed figuring out where to place the doggy’s eyes. The position of the gaze really alters her mood and area of concentration. If you’re a full subscriber to #coloricombo you can watch the short demo video below.
