Let sleeping dogs lie or don't....

Reworking a Dachshund painting using Week 42s colours
3

The colours used in this mixing demo and sketchbook painting (well, paintings if you include my original Dachshund) were taken from an artwork made famous by the record and music company His Master’s Voice, aka HMV.

I managed to get ahead of myself and have noticed that I missed Week 41’s demo - look out for it soon.

Mixing

The colours I used were Buff, Caramel, Warm Brown & Burnt Umber and they lent themselves very well to October’s “Dog” theme. They remind me immediately of Dachshunds, Dobermanns, Manchester Terriers, Rottweilers and even certain types of Spaniels. Everyone has access to the mixing demo at the top of the page.

Artwork

Here’s the two Dachshunds I ended up painting. Which one do you think was first? If you’re a full subscriber you can find out and see when I decided to carry on painting, changing the one into the other.

When I plan a painting or get stuck during the creating process I like to use paper stencils as a tool and you’ll be able to see how I used them here.
