What's happened in the last 3,300 years?

Catching up on Mycenaean-inspired mixing and artworks from Week 38

Cast your mind back to the colours of Week 38 when I was in Greece and spent a day visiting Mycenae. I shared colours from a krater that looks like it could have been made yesterday but it’s actually about 3,300 years old!

That means it was created and fired around 1400-1300 BC, before the Iron Age and the founding of Rome. Way before the teachings of Copernicus and the Republic of Athens, before Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Cleopatra and Jesus Christ. At the start of my art career as an I was a studio ceramicist, I have a soft spot for pottery and find this piece amazing, just think of the events it’s ‘lived through’ since it’s creation.

Mixing

The colours mixed are Terracotta, Sand, Chocolate & Stone and everyone can see my mixing demonstration here.

Artwork

I created a sketchbook painting of a vase using Week 38’s colours. Full subscribers can see a video of the process below.
