Festive Themed Drawings
Links to all ten of the Xmas projects
Merry Christmas to everyone. Over the last ten days (ending on Xmas Eve), I shared the outcome of each festive-themed lesson along with a short video demo. You can now see the whole collection here all together in one place, so they’re easy to find.

The first project, Number Ten is turned into a simple Christmas tree created using Luminance colour pencils from Caran D’ache.
The shape of the Number Nine is used to draw a yule log with a Robin in the snow. Some of my long term favourite materials are used in this demo: a black Inktense pencil made by Derwent, along with Inktense blocks for added colour and white Designer Gouache from Schminke.
For Number Eight I used masking tape to block off an triangular shape and drew a different Christmas tree using Neocolor II crayons in an alternative Christmas colour combination using the aubergine coloured crayon called Kaput Mortum.

Onto Number Seven, a quick doodle of a star was made using the shape of the number seven to start off the drawing on a dark background. I used a white luminance pencil for this drawing.
For Number Six, the number’s shape was used to create the curls of the ribbon on a present. I used Paynes Grey watercolour paint from Golden Paints for this sketchbook drawing.
Number Five is a dip pen drawing of a Christmas pudding in ink, I used a COMPOSTY disposable sponge to create a textured stamp effect.

For Number Four’s demo I used a container with a syringe-sized drawing nib to apply masking fluid to create a resist effect I stamped the dark blue with Pigment Ink pads on top. I used High Flow acrylic ink ink to create fine drawn lines with the same tool. Different materials from the previous demos were used to add more colour layers.
The angel in Number Three was started on a pink background and demonstrated how to layer with white gouache and a variety of materials to create a textured background. The same process of making dots for the starry sky with the masking fluid isshown in number four’s demo.
For Number Two the background is covered with a grey coating using a 4B graphite stick. A Blackwing pencil’s eraser and a soft charcoal eraser from Caran d’Ache is used to reveal a dove before adding the olive branch in green.
On Christmas Eve, I used the Number 1 for the final project, creating a layered wreath by starting off with the line shape of the number in repeat.
Masking fluid is applied in the same applicator as shown before to make this simple round structure. Inktense blocks were used to add green and yellow details along with Neocolor II crayons. Versafile Pigment Inkpads were used for the deep blue background and the red dots that were done with the aid of a paper stencil - this is one of my favourite ways of creating repeated shapes quickly.

Merry Christmas and thank you for this lovely collection. I enjoyed each and every one of your creative use of numbers.
